The teenage years are the in-betweens - in between childhood and adulthood. Often, it is difficult to find
activities to please everyone in the family, especially teens. They like some of the "little kid" stuff such as the
zoo or an amusement park. But they also want to feel grown-up. In New York, you have choices for your teens:
amusement parks, cyber cafes, bookstores, malls, video arcades, and sporting events.
One way to make the trip enjoyable for your teen is to allow them to plan an activity each day, or two or three
activities during your trip. This depends on the length of your stay. This will go a long way in getting them to
accept those activities you want to do. Compromise is a valuable lesson for anyone and by allowing your teen to
participate in decision-making, you are showing them you value their input.
Girls like to shop. New York is filled with trendy, expensive boutiques and department stores. If you want to watch your budget, you can find "vintage" clothing
shops or consignment shops for them to explore. They will probably find items to excite them. When they get
home, they may have a one-of-a-kind fashion accessory.
While the girls are shopping, your teenage boys can be occupied if you spend some time with them in a video
arcade such as Game Time Nation. You can buy time and play as many Xbox, PS2 games, foosball or air hockey as you like. You can buy as much time as
you like: half-an-hour, an hour, or more. Games are played on flat screen TVs in the gaming lounge. Be brave and
play a game with your kids. You may lose, but you will cherish the time you spend with your boys.
Vacations should be fun and memorable. A picture is worth a thousand words when it is one of you and your teens
with big smiles, having fun.
Make your trip memorable for your teenagers. Use your vacation in New York City to bond with your family. You
will have lasting memories . . .
